Session Format

There will be three types of sessions during IROS 2011. In addition to the customary technical tracks, IROS 2011 will feature specially organized symposia and novel interactive sessions:

  • Regular sessions consist of 8 papers. Three of them are interactive presentations, which will be briefly presented as teaser talkes during the regular session and then presented interactively and at length during the subsequent session in the special interactive presentation area equipped with large screens.
  • Symposia are invited sessions that are focused on a specific subfield and organized by renowned researchers to celebrate 50 years of robotics. Symposia can span more than one session and consists of papers that undergo the regular review process.  In addition, a longer invited talk (semi-plenary) will be part of some symposia. The table below gives one particular schedule for a symposium session. Examples of other symposium schedules are available on the Symposia page.
  • Interactive sessions allow a carefully selected number of regular papers to be presented in an interactive manner on large flat screens. We plan to have 27 papers presented in parallel to small groups of interested attendantees during each interactive session, in order to foster a lively exchange of ideas between participants.

In order to inform all attendants of the upcoming interactive presentations, authors will give a short "teaser" presentation during the regular session preceding their interactive session. It is important to note that papers presented during interactive sessions are reviewed and published exactly as regular papers. The program committee will select those papers for interactive sessions that are most likely to benefit from the interactive presentation format.
